Hey friend,
Yesterday, I recorded my final Revenue Without Borders podcast episode. After weeks of waffling on whether to end the podcast, I finally ended it. And it feels surprisingly, freeing.
As some of you may know, the podcast was originally called ‘Barely Legal in Web3’, with a heavy focus on my professional side as a technology lawyer. I landed amazing guests like the United States Securities and Exchange Commissioner Hester Peirce, and globally-known investor and commentator, Jim Rogers. I built a community around the show as it evolved, and I my inbox was inundated with requests from PR companies for their clients to appear on the show. So why end it?
For years, my real desire has been to lean into YouTube as a way of educating, inspiring, and storytelling. But there was always some reason why I didn’t — either my family wasn’t willing to appear in my vlogs, or I felt insecure about being on camera, or I was worried about what people would say…you name it, I had an excuse for it.
Finally, I realized that I had too much other things in my life to really focus on YouTube at all. And the podcast was one of those things. So I made a pivot. I did something drastic - yet intentionally, which was a step closer toward what I really want.
In life it is so easy to get distracted. And these distractions keep us away from what we really want. And the most challenging part is that these distractions can often appear, to ourselves and others, as amazing accomplishments. But are they what you really want?
Today, I challenge you to take inventory of what is taking up space in your life. Take a close look at everything - the good and the bad. Then ask yourself, “Is this something moving me closer to what I really want, or is it a distraction.
And if you need motivation that there is life after getting rid of a beloved ‘distraction’, keep an eye on my YouTube channel, where I am making big changes to create more of the content that really resonates with my community - people like you.
Warm Regards,
Jamilia
